Public Wi-Fi Risks

Open networks can spy on what you do.

What it is

Free Wi-Fi at cafés, airports, and hotels can be set up by attackers, or watched by other users on the same network.

How it works

An attacker creates a hotspot called 'Free_Airport_WiFi'. You connect, and they sit between you and every site you visit.

How people get tricked

Anything labeled 'free' and convenient lowers our guard.

How to protect yourself

  • Use your phone's hotspot instead of unknown Wi-Fi.
  • If you must connect, avoid banking or shopping.
  • Use a reputable VPN to encrypt your traffic.
  • Make sure sites show https:// before logging in.

Know this now

Treat public Wi-Fi like a public conversation — others may be listening.
